INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE
EUROPE AND THE ASIA-PACIFIC:
CULTURE, IDENTITY AND REPRESENTATIONS OF REGION
Thursday and Friday, 10-11 May 2001
University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK
(Centre for Research in European Studies (CREST) 4th annual
conference, with postgraduate sponsorship from UACES).
This wide-ranging conference features papers from
internationally-renowned scholars, policy analysts,
diplomatic and NGO experts and postgraduate researchers
from across Europe, the Asia-Pacific, and North America.
The programme includes papers taking comparative
approaches to security cultures and communities,
territorialisation, literary representation and
translation, the cultural imaginary, media representations,
elite formation, diasporic and postcolonial identities,
material culture and cultural reproduction, property
rights, area studies, religious identities, racialised and
sexualised identities, political economy, performativity,
and the role of law in identity formation. Thematically
organised, the conference aims to provide a forum for
interdisciplinary discussion across politics and
international relations, development, gender, literary and
cultural studies, law, economics, art history, history, and
sociology.
The 2-day registration fee is 40 UK pounds(students 20
pounds).
On-campus accommodation available at 32 pounds per night
(book before 20 April).
