Departments of Computer and Information Science
The departments of Computer and information Science are seeking to
employ a researcher to work with a team of academics on IST Project
2000-26061 (MIND).
MIND focuses on Resource Selection and Data Fusion for Multimedia
Digital Libraries and is aimed at: developing a variety of metadata
generation methods for different media; designing algorithms for
improving the selection of the most relevant collections of information;
developing data fusion techniques for retrieved items from the selected
collections; and evaluating these methods on different sources of data
and cohorts of users. The project started in January 2001 and will last
for 30 months. The project involves partners from the USA, Italy, UK and
Germany and the successful candidate will have an opportunity to travel
to these countries for technical and project meetings. There will also
be opportunities to attend conferences in the information retrieval and
digital library arena.
Candidates should have or almost have a relevant postgraduate degree in
Computer Science or a related discipline. In addition, experience in
programming and interface design, a knowledge of Java or C++, and an
interest in information retrieval and digital libraries are desired.
Starting salary will be on the RA 1A/1B scale, in the range £16,775 to
£25,213 p.a.
