In actuality the 30 days a year is, as well as other
things is seen by govt as enticing Dr's and
encouraging the process of life long learning - you
know as well as I do how juniors are abused by the
system and unless you have an exam pending you don't
get it - why ? There's nothing in the new deal that
say's this has to be so. From a managers point of veiw
this time is also included in your budget !! per SHO
and if it isn't, then I suggest you speak to your
trust and ask where this money has gone.
Secondly, the cost of courses is generally approved
and paid for by post grad education. Something else
that is in their budget.
SHO's learning is not meant to be a cost saving
exercise. The SHO however should be able to
demonstrate that the time has been used wisely and
that the expense is justified. (like for exams - but
courses and teaching on what study was undertaken can
also be beneficial.
Learning and CPD is going to become a part of
revalidation - I know it and you know it. Probably
best to forget how we were all treated and concentrate
on the way things are now - and will be till the next
unproven "fad" comes along.
