Hi Ray and all...
Unfortunately I wasn't able to go to postgrad workshop, but hopefully
I'll get to know you all through the list. I'm the only idiot here that can
call themselves a postgraduate criminologist - everyone else is in
psychology, behavioral analysis, social admin etc - we don't even
have a criminology department!. Just sort of got into this by chance!
Anyway I transferred from MPhil to Dphil about a year ago and then
got a studentship for full-time DPhil for three years (don't ask!). My
transfer was in the form of a postgraduate research conference in
which I had to stand up and talk for half an hour and people on the
board asked me questions. They really just want to be reassured
that your work will meet Phd status, will make a significant
contribution to research and that it can be completed in the time
allocated. I had no data collected so I had to sound very convincing!
MY TIP - I hate talking in front of a group of people (football in my
mouth syndrome) so I swallowed a bottle of RESCUE REMEDY
before hand. Talk about being high!! It all went swingingly!!
Good Luck
