SPECIALIST CONFERENCE ON SOCIAL CARE & MENTAL HEALTH
(Friday 12 October 2001)
Call for Short Papers
Led by Professor Peter Huxley, Professor of Social Work in the Social Work
and Social Care Section of the Health Services Research Department,
Institute of Psychiatry.
The HSR Department aims to improve and promote evidence-based mental health
practice and policy making in mental health care within the UK and
internationally. The aim of this specialist conference is to provide a
forum for the presentation and dissemination of evidence from new and
innovative social interventions in the mental health field.
The organisers will accept submissions for SHORT, evidence-based papers on
ANY of the following themes related to people with mental health problems:
· The role of social work in integrated community mental health services
· Social care interventions provided by voluntary and independent providers
· The effects of neighbourhood regeneration on mental health
· Interventions to promote employment for people with mental health problems
· Interventions to improve social capital or social inclusion
· The impact of changes to welfare benefit arrangements
· Interventions that improve quality of life
· Methodological issues in the evaluation of social care interventions in
mental health
· Other evidence-based social work and social care practice
The conference organisers will welcome short papers in ANY of the following
service areas:
· User-led
· Independent/voluntary sector
· Adult mental health
· Child and adolescent mental health
· Older people's mental health
· Mental health and social care policy
· System level interventions
· Primary/secondary care
· Forensic
· Dual diagnosis
· Probation
