Bactrim has been withdrawn in this country, and its equivalent, Septrin, is
only used in life-threatening infection, esp Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia,
because of an unexplained but significantly higher-than-expected-mortality
among patients.
Not entirely sure of the mechanism, but it is hardly ever used here now (1o
or 2o care)(except, as I say, PCP).
