PRINCIPAL RESEARCH OFFICER
Based in London
Salary £28,600 - £47,250
The Department of Health's Research and Development Division (RDD)
commissions a range of exciting and innovative research projects. This
post is one of a number in RDD concerned with the Policy Research
Programme, the aim of which is to provide Ministers and Departmental policy
divisions with high quality evidence on strategic policy issues. You will
be managing research in the field of adult social care, with the focus of
the work being on older people and covering such issues as interface and
joint working with health services; community and long term care; carers
and users; and workforce and performance. All RDD research is
commissioned from external researchers.
THE ROLE
· Developing policy research needs in consultation with policy makers and
academic and service advisors as appropriate.
· Identifying priorities for primary and secondary research, taking policy
and academic advice.
· Planning and specifying programmes of research.
· Commissioning research programmes, projects and reviews that are relevant
and timely and good value for money.
· Managing research programmes to ensure they meet their aims, are high
quality and are delivered on time and to budget.
· Making the evidence base accessible as an important contribution to policy.
· Developing dissemination strategies for commissioned projects.
THE PERSON
· Good social science degree essential and a post-graduate qualification
desirable.
· A sound appreciation of a wide variety of research methodologies.
· Proven track record of applied research and experience of research
management.
· Knowledge of policy in relation to social care and health in relation to
older people and community care service delivery, or a related area.
· Creative approach to disseminating and exploiting research.
· Understanding of the relationship between scientific knowledge and policy
formulation.
· Ability to deliver on a large workload and the capacity for management,
financial control and ensuring value for money.
This post is offered on a full-time permanent basis, but a secondment will
also be considered.
