Dear Friends,
I am a research analyst at the U.S. Social Security Administration and have
been impressed by List members' response to inquires. Would appreciate your
help in locating Social Assistance Data Base cited in Social Security
Pensions: Development and Reform, edited by Colin Gillion, et al. (published
by the International Labour Office in Geneva in 2000). The citation reads
as follows:
Ditch, John; Oldfield, N; and Astin, M. 1998. Social Assistance Data Base
(Department of Social Security; University of Essex).
I have tried, though unsuccessfully, both the DSS' publications list (at its
website), and the University of Essex website contact list to reach either
of the three authors.
To begin with, does this "data base" contain social assistance programs in
countries other than the UK? Does "social assistance" include needs-based
(cash and/or in-kind benefits) programs for the aged?
Also, would like to know whether this is a book that can be purchased (if
so, from whom) or this is a data base that is kept up to date continuously
and can be accessed via internet.
Finally, are the authors currently engaged in research relating to social
assistance issues, especially regarding needs-based (means or income-tested)
cash benefits for the aged?
Many thanks in advance for your kind assistance.
Lillian Liu
