SALARY R1A SCALE £18,731 - £20,465
DEPARTMENT OF LAW, KEELE UNIVERSITY
An exciting opportunity to be a key researcher on an ESRC funded project
exploring the changing politics of lesbian and gay equality in local
government between 1990-2001.
Through interviews and documentary analysis, the project will explore
what has happened in those authorities who earlier pioneered work in
this area, as well as researching new entrants in the field. The project
will draw on a range of theoretical perspectives in order to examine: i]
the extent and ways in which policy-making learns from past experiences;
ii] the changing politics of lesbian and gay local government activism;
iii] the impact on lesbian and gay work of changes to local government;
and iv] the growing governance role of other agencies and the effect of
this on municipal gay initiatives.
The post will suit someone will good research organisational skills, who
is able to work independently, and to deadlines. In terms of
qualifications, you should have (or be completing) a PhD or demonstrate
equivalent research experience. Because the project entails considerable
qualitative field research, including carrying out semi-structured
interviews, you should have experience in this area. You should also,
ideally, have some research based publications.
Expertise in the field of local government lesbian and gay policy-making
is not essential, but you should have at least a basic knowledge of how
local government operates, as well as some general understanding of
lesbian and gay sexual politics.
The project is being led by Davina Cooper (Keele) and Jean Carabine
(Open University). For informal discussion of the project and position
