I would like to comment on the discussion regarding children and weight
lifting. Apart from being miles away from the original question raised a
few days ago, one of the main reasons why certain sports have age
restriction, is not that participating in the sport is detrimental to the
child's physical development but rather to play down the competitiveness of
those sports. Some people are of the opinion that children should enjoy
sport without having the added stress of competition and the mental stress
that goes with both winning and loosing.
As for the discussion itself, I think Mel and the other participants has
raised some valid points regarding this subject which have been backed up by
both scientific and empirical evidence. This is a discussion forum where we
are supposed to learn from each other through sharing our knowledge.
