This is a really basic question. I do apologize to all you experts out there.
Were records generally kept of Petty Sessions prior to the 1840s, which is
when reports start in our local paper? If so will they be kept with the
Quarter Sessions papers, or would they have ended up in the private
possession of the magistrates on the local bench? I have looked at Stephens
and also at Ridden's Sources, but I am still confused. The reports in the
local paper reveal the location of the local brothel in the 1840s . It
would be interesting to see if it was in the same place in the 1820s.
