Dear list members
I have been asked to post this to the list on behalf of Agnes Bell from the
Data Services Unit at the NMR. Users of the exeGesIS HBSMR v2 might like to
note that following successful peer review the Components Thesaurus will be
available for use in the new components screen. Please reply directly to
Agnes, not myself.
Thanks

Dear Colleagues
At present a peer review exercise is taking place of the Components
Thesaurus, an emerging national indexing standard developed by the English
Heritage Data Services Unit on behalf of FISH, the Forum on Information
Standards in Heritage. FISH is involved in setting up a national framework
of terminology standards to support a range of heritage data recording and
retrieval functions. If you would like to find out more about FISH, then
please look at its web site at http://www.mda.org.uk/fish/.
If you wish to participate in the peer reviewing exercise please contact me
(***off list please***) at [log in to unmask], for an electronic peer
review pack (formatted in Word97. Internet access is also required to review
the Components Thesaurus).
The Components Thesaurus will be a standard set of terms for indexing
records in the cultural heritage sector. It will assist access to
information and its provision to the public. It will also promote the
sharing of records between organisations adopting the Components Thesaurus
as a common standard.
If you are wondering what this thesaurus will cover here are few example of
the type of terms in the thesaurus: Entrance, Forecourt, Room, Coal Tippler,
Engine, Column, Door, Baluster, Girding Beam, Tabernacle, and Tile Hanging.
In all 1204 terms are included in the thesaurus at present.
The review will finish on the 23rd April 2001 so if you wish to undertake
this review will please contact me as soon as possible, or by the 30th March
2001 at the latest.
Thanks for your interest
