Dear Colleagues
A French associate (Dr. Bruno Detournay, CEMKA) is writing a discussion paper for the Ministry of Health (France) about the future of health professions in France. This is in response to a projected shortfall of doctors when compared to demographic changes (continued population ageing).
There is particular interest in the potential to bridge the gaps between different professional groups, some of whom are only now emerging in France - especially the possibility of substitution of certain activities by other health professionals. The following areas for potential substitution have been identified:
Optometrists v ophthalmologists
Radiographers v radiologists
Nurses v GPs
Paediatricians v GPs
Geriatricians v GPs
Bruno is interested in having some illustrative examples of the boundaries between these groups in the UK, especially where there is overlap in activities and areas where there is a potential for substitution. At this stage he is only interested in brief illustrative material.
I would be grateful for any suggestions you may have - I will make collated material (if any) available to list members.
Thanks
