Dear Bruce,
Greetings from Al-Ain the oasis city of the Middle East. The Institute of
clinical systems development guideline on hypertension (updated in November
2000) has an excellent table (on page 20) which gives the following
information for beta-blockers. These are: associated conditions where
useful, associated conditions requiring caution, contraindications, drug
interactions and potential side effects.
You can access the guideline on line @
http://www.icsi.org/guide/HTN.pdf
You may also find the ACC guideline on evaluation and management of heart
failure of some interest. Available @
http://www.acc.org/clinical/guidelines/failure/dirIndex.htm
I could not access the primary literature as MEDLINE server is being
relocated.
Hope these guidelines are of some help.
Cheers and regards,
Badri
