Dear Magdalena,
I'm not going to fax the document. I had second thoughts and found other
sources to confirm the date.
The Carniege study says July 25, but the official chronology on Europa says
July 23, http://europa.eu.int/abc/history/1952/1952_en.htm.
As Patrick pointed out, the treaty article calls for entry into force when
the last ratification is deposited. That was Luxembourg on July 23.
Also the Commission has issued two communications on the expiration of the
ECSC Treaty, COM(2000)518
http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/en/com/cnc/2000/com2000_0518en01.pdf and
COM(2000)588
http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/en/com/cnc/2000/com2000_0588en01.pdf. Both
state that the Treaty expires on July 23. As the duration was 50 years, the
date of expiry has to correspond to the date of entry into force.
These are official documents. Hope it solves your problem.

I don't have an official document although there is probably something in
the French official archives (country designated to receive ratification
notifications). I don't know if the French, or other original member states,
have offical treaty series. Alternatively, you might try the UN Treaty
Series. I don't have a subscription.
I have a small phamphlet done by the Carneige Endowment in May 1955 on the
ECSC. It gives a ratification chronology (no footnotes) with the Treaty
entry into force on July 25, 1952. If you want a copy of the page, let me
know.
There was a meeting of the member state Ministers in Paris on July 24 and
25, so there probably was something in the newspapers on those days, at
least in Le Monde.

Hello All
Does anyone have a idea how to find a document which sets the date of the
entry into force for ECSC Treaty?
I know that it is July 1952 but I can not find any official document which
tells the exact date. Please let me know if you have any ideas.
Many thanks

Martin,
The Treaty on European Union is on Europa at
http://europa.eu.int/en/record/mt/top.html
so it's probably easier for them to download it - unless
they want all the fancy signatures etc!
The ABC sectionon Europa has all the other treaties, at
http://europa.eu.int/abc/treaties_en.htm
Best wishes
