To Eveyone
I have just been sent a document for consultation from my local council
called Welfare to Work for Disabled People; 'Joint Investment Plan'.
Within this document I was very interested in the section called 'A needs
analysis'.
Within this section there was a definition of Disablity within the
Disability Discrimination Act (DDA); 'the act' defines disability as a
physical or mental impairment, which has substantial and long-term adverse
effect on a person's ability carry out normal day-to-day activities. This
includes people who have:
* learning disabilities;
*mental health problems;
*sensory impairments;
*physical impairments;
*chronic ill health;
*life limiting illnesses;
*brain injury
"for the purposes of 'disability' does not, in general, include someone with
problems related to drugs or alcohol"
My questions to eveyone is where within 'the act' do 'we' neuro-divergent's
believe from the above listed should we be categorised ?
Where do we fit the following impairments ?
Aspergers Syndrome;
Dyspraxia/Developmental Co-ordination Disorder;
ADD/AD(H)D;
Dyslexia, Dysclaculia and other SpLd's
etc etc...
I would like to hear your own views on how we should be categorised with the
DDA ?
Do we believe that 'we' do come within the above categories as listed above
and 'we' are protected with rights under the DDA ?
What are your thoughts around individuals who have addictions to
alcohol,drugs and substance abuses being excluded from the DDA ?
Regards
Colin R
