The Centre for Disability Studies (formerly the
Disability Research Unit) at Leeds is pleased to
announce this forthcoming event:
25thApril, 2–4pm, Rob Evans (Manchester
Metropolitan University). ‘Deconstructing
Tourette’s Syndrome: Reclaiming Lives from Labels’
Sessions will be held at the University of Leeds, Room
10.03, Economic and Social Studies building.
‘New Directions in Disability’ is a series of guest
lectures by disability activists and academics
commencing October 2000. Themes include:
The interdisciplinary future of disability studies;
The implications of research concerning disabled
children and young people;
The relationship between activism and the academy
The psycho-emotional dimensions of disability
Developingthe social model of disability’.
Other speakers include Mike Oliver, Carol Thomas,
Jenny Morris, Colin Barnes, Vic Finkelstein, Mairian
Corker and Rachel Hurst. The CDS at Leeds is currently
working on ways of re-presenting these sessions on its
