CALL FOR PAPERS:
Intelligence & Interaction in Community-based Systems
a special issue of
Interacting with Computers.
Community-based systems may arguably be amongst the most topical
and technically interesting subject areas of development today. They
are certainly the most socially significant. Such systems act as the
new connective tissue of a modern genre of digitally-linked communities.
These communities can vary enormously in scale, both in character and
organisational goals - goals which can vary from grass roots political
activism to enhanced municipal communication.
They are largely oriented towards lay user-groups and have to
accommodate local citizen structures that range between the formal
and the extremely informal. Their future represents an interesting
challenge to both research & development.
To report this challenge, a special issue of the interdisciplinary
journal "Interacting with Computers" is announced, having the title,
"Intelligence & Interaction in Community-based Systems". This special
issue will act as a forum for the most promising research in advanced
interaction and computational intelligence, which has demonstrable
application in the next generation of community-based systems.
Subject matter in this special issue will touch upon those broad
topics that indicate real promise to empower the future online citizen,
or promote social cohesion in the community or, in general will point
to the potential of advanced work in information and communication
technologies to benefit society. Papers are invited which may identify
this potential from the perspectives of, sociology, human factors,
computation and management, amongst others.
Topics may include one or more of the following:
User Issues: The online citizen and the connected community; user
profiling and user modelling; user interaction and usability; user
concerns in the areas of trust, privacy and security.
Social issues: social cohesion; ethnic solidarity; collective communal
memories.
Computational topics: multi-agent systems; intelligent appliances and
adaptive technologies.
The invitation to participate in this special issue of Interacting with
Computers is extended by the General Editorial and Management Board of
the journal. Submitted papers should be addressed in the first instance
to the guest editors Stathis and Purcell. Further details and guidelines
available at:
http://lima.soi.city.ac.uk/iwc/cfp.htm.
Since we expect a substantial response to this call and to enable us to
plan the issue, we ask that authors intended to submit should notify the
guest editors by the 31st of March with a title.
