The UN World Population Prospects Revision 2000 estimates 15,5 million excess
deaths from AIDS in the next 5 years.

That, in case you did not notice, is more than died in the Holocaust. The
total demographic deficit is estimated at 302 million for 2050. That is, 302
million less people will be alive than if HIV/AIDS had not existed.
Most of these deaths will be in the poorest countries of Africa.
Statistically, most would be would be avoided, if those countries had the
standard of living and health care of the democracies. That could only be
acheived by resource transfers, on a scale far exceeding the so-called
development aid.
Now democracy prevents a repetition of the Holocaust: this has become its main
negative justification. But democracy also prevents massive resource transfer.
Unfortunately, in democracies, the people rule. The people choose not to share
their historically unparalleled wealth: the people choose to keep it for themselves.
If we have so arranged the world, that a new Holocaust is prevented in the
democracies, but at the cost of more dead elsewhere, then we have made a bad swop.
