I imagine all this is fairly common across the country at the moment.
Years ago (by which I mean a dozen or more) there was a news report in
The Independent about the drying-up of the Mobwell pool which gives rise
to the River Misbourne at Great Missenden not too far from me in High
Wycombe. It was long, long dry when I moved here four years ago, and the
Misbourne wasn't rising until well below the village. I've always made a
point of driving past Mobwell whenever I'm out that way, and for the
last two years it's been full every time (along with the pool at Four
Ashes where the Hughenden Dragon was supposed to have emerged, but
that's another story). At the moment the overspill is flooding the road
alongside.
Given that you had to wade through knee-deep water when I went there
some years ago, I dread to think what the well at Madron looks like now!
