Hello,
You might want to have a look at Broadcast 5th January 2001 p 8 an article
by Steve Clarke titled "Taking care of TV History" identifying a possible
threat to the Independent Television Commission Library in Foley Street,
London. This arises from the recent government White Paper proposing a
single regulatory authority or "OFCOM" with the inevitable reorganisations
that will create.
The ITC Library is the nearest that we in the UK have to a National Library
for Television and its related subjects. It has among other things one of
only three complete sets of the TV Times in existence and a innumerable list
of other irreplaceable journal runs, books and documents concerning
broadcasting past and present. It is unique in that it opens its doors to
commercial researchers, academics and students and of course has an expert
staff to advise users.
I understand nothing has been decided yet and that an internal review is
ongoing, however, it may be that professional colleagues from academia will
be required to lobby on its behalf in the not too distant future.
Will keep you posted
Matt
