The Isle of Man had only 17 parishes (from 1154 through to 1870's) so one
might think that difficult to lose dedications however:
Santon which is now assumed to be Sanctain (or similar Celtic) went to
Saint Anne from mid 18th thru to late 19th
Arbory possibly combining St Cairpre of Coleraine and St. Columba(modern).
Kirk Carbery mutating to Kirk Arbory by 1703
Braddan - thought to be Brendan (but could be similar celtic name)
German - Confused with St Germanus (another celtic name)
Lonan - now St Adamnan (Eunan) but authories not sure about this suggesting
St Lonan Machaisre (of Donegal)
Marown - St Ronan but which one ?
Onchan (prev Conchan) - St Conchan ? (given all sorts of explanations in
19th C) new 1830's church dedicated to St Peter!
(for those who want to delve -

so 7 out of 17 in doubt - most 'determined' by dates of fairs supposedly on
patronal feast - obviously many problems caused by Celtic names - of the
other 10 - 2 are to St Patrick, two to Holy Trinity, 1 to St Mary, 1 to
Bridget, 1 to Michael, 1 to Andrew one to Lua (another possibly
questionable one) and another to Maughold (a local saint).
