A survey of geo-spatial data needs (I)
______________________________________
We appreciate that your time is valuable, but hope that you can help us to
influence the future supply of geo-spatial data to the Higher Education
community for teaching and research. We would also appreciate your help in
forwarding this
questionnaire to others you think may have an interest in the supply and
use of geo-spatial data.
The survey is part of the eLib Digimap.Plus Project funded by the Joint
Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the higher education funding
bodies. We hope the results will assist the JISC in prioritising the
development of geo-data content within the Distributed National Electronic
Resource (DNER). The six questions below are being sent to individual
Higher Education staff and postgraduate student users of geo-spatial data
and to members of the Learning and Teaching Subject Networks and their
associates. If you have received more than one request to complete these
questions, we apologise.
Responses be will be treated as confidential with respect to both
individuals and institutions, and we will comply with the Data Protection Act.
We would be grateful if you would indicate in answering Question 5 whether
you would be willing to give us more detailed information about your
individual geo-spatial data needs in a follow-up questionnaire. We will
also be sending this detailed questionnaire to Chief Librarians and Heads
of Computing Services (i.e. budget holders) in Higher Education
Institutions (HEIs).
1. List title(s) of data set(s) you wish to use but currently do not have
access to.
2. If more than one listed above, prioritise them 1-3: (1 = Absolute
requirement; 2 = Very desirable; 3 = Minor interest)
3. Geographical extent of above data set(s)
4. Source(s) of above data set(s), if known
5. Are you willing to complete a more detailed follow-up questionnaire?
6. Your name and contact details.
Please bear in mind, that the survey only concerns geo-spatial data and
does not include statistical data. The geo-spatial data must have a direct
spatial reference i.e. statistical data is outwith the scope but
geographical boundaries of the areas for which the statistics have been
gathered are within scope.
Many thanks. We greatly appreciate your completing this survey.
