The Barrier-Free City is a Special Issue of the international journal 'Urban Studies',
Volume 38 Number 2 February 2001. The idea was first proposed in 1998 to draw
together a range of interested people to discuss their research on the daily reality of the built
environment for disabled people. Co-ordinated by Guest Editor, Rob Imrie, Department of
Geography, Royal Holloway University of London, the following papers are the end
