It is with mixed emotions that I report that Eric Miller will be leaving the
OCLC Office of Research later this month to assume leadership of the W3C
Semantic Web activity at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Eric has played a pivotal role in the development of the Dublin Core
Metadata Initiative since its inception in 1995. No one has invested more
enthusiasm, more energy, more committment to the Dublin Core than he, and I
personally will miss his daily presence greatly. Eric and I have been
colleagues, confidants, and good friends for more than a dozen years, and it
is hard for me to imagine that we will not be working side by side on a
daily basis.
However, in his role as leader of the Semantic Web activity, Eric will
continue to play an important part in the evolution of the Dublin Core, will
help cement an already supportive relationship between DCMI and the W3C, and
will directly influence on the development of Web infrastructure that is
critical to the deployment of DCMI metadata. This is an exceptional
opportunity for an exceptional person, and I know that his many friends in
the community join me in wishing him great success in this new venture.
