Call for contributions: aesthetics and totalitarianism
Contributions are requested for a proposed collection of essays
dealing with the interaction between aesthetic
practice and the ideology and practice of dictatorship in the
twentieth century. It is hoped that the volume will present a series
of essays which open up new avenues of investigation in this field,
either by introducing new theoretical approaches, focussing on
previously neglected subjects, or proposing interdisciplinary or
comparative approaches.
Contributions which focus on the totalitarian movements of the first
half of the century (especially in comparative perspective) are
particularly welcome, but all suggestions will be considered.
Possible areas of investigation: theoretical approaches to
'totalitarianism' and the arts; literary / film / visual arts /
musicological / theatre / performance studies; arts for children;
institutions of cultural control; issues of resistance and complicity
