Research Officer
Audit of Democratic Participation
15 month fixed term contract
£22,180 - £24,412 pa
The Scottish Civic Forum in association with the Centre for Governance is
engaging in a 15 month research programme to develop an audit process which
will assess to what degree the Scottish Parliament, its committees and the
Scottish Executive are fulfilling their commitments to inclusive,
participatory policy development.
We are seeking a talented researcher to co-ordinate, develop, implement and
report on this research programme.
You will undertake a range of research: establishing and analysing
approaches to both audit and democratic participation; network analysis;
developing methodologies to ensure the outcomes and impacts of democratic
participation are appropriately evaluated. You will be managed by a Research
Advisory Panel (RAP) and work with the Audit of Democratic Working Group of
the Scottish Civic Forum.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop new and ground-breaking research
and project management skills within an innovative organisation. The project
has attracted funding from the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust and provides
a unique opportunity to identify practical outcomes that will influence how
the Scottish Parliament and Executive carry out participative policy
development in the future. In addition to research/analysis experience of at
least 4 years, you should have proven project management capability and a
sound understanding of participatory techniques, governance issues, research
and reporting skills. Practical knowledge of statistical analysis (SPSS and
NUDIST) spreadsheet, database and WP packages will also be essential, along
with good presentation skills.
