No references to rose-petals - but several medieval Welsh poets described
the beads of the rosary as acorns; for Guto'r Glyn the ten beads of the Ave
Maria were the 'ten acorns of God' . This gives interesting implications to
the decoration of so many Welsh rood screens with trails of oak leaves and
acorns (as well as vine trails and corn sheaves).
BTW - is anyone else having difficulty accessing recent list archives? I
deleted a posting about Cernunos at the gate of Hell then wanted to get
back to it for a friend who is interested in the Cernunos cult but couldn't
access the archives beyond last November. I keep getting 'access forbidden'
messages from our server - I think they think it's a chatline! (How could
they think that?) Could I please beg the learned member who posted the
Cernunos reference to send it to me again and I'll pass it on to Chris (who
says she daren't join this list because it is all too fascinating and she'd
never get any work done).
