Dear Kath
There is a stink pole on the Coleford to Clearwell Road in the Forest of Dean, although very badly rusted it does have a crown on top.

Subject: stink poles
Hope this doesn't sound too strange, but do any other authorities out there
(metropolitan/borough/county) have what we here in Sutton call "stink
poles". Would have been built late in 19th century probably and used to vent
sewers. May have arrows on them and crowns - as tall as a telephone poll.
We're trying to get a feel for how common/uncommon they are.
Many thanks
Kath
