I have been attempting to engage in a bibliographic search of the available
secondary literature having to do with the change in aesthetics from the
late Baroque to the early Classical period in Hamburg, Germany. My
interests relate to both literature and music, specifically as to how the
two intersect in the early history of the German Lied, or art song.
Hamburg would seem to have been a center for this early history given the
presence of the poet Johann Friedrich von Hagedorn and the musicians/music
critic Johann Adolph Scheibe, among others.
I have been told in passing that a considerable secondary literature relates
to this subject. That notwithstanding, a recent attempt to engage in some
on-line bibliographic searching netted me nothing.
I wonder if anyone could lend a helping hand?
Many thanks,
