Bob Pearson of OCLC has mapped ONIX to MARC21, and Alan Danskin of the
British Library has mapped ONIX to UNIMARC.

DC was conceived as a general purpose standard for description and
discovery
of on-line resources. ONIX is for a more specific group of users with more
needs than simple description and discovery. DC is not meant to be all
things to all people.
I do hope they are talking to the MARC folks. There is much more overlap
with that format and both groups of users could benefit from
interoperatbility between ONIX and MARC. The vast number of records in MARC
could provide a starting place for ONIX records for items already in print.
Later ONIX records could provide a starting place for MARC records. The two
communities have much to gain from cooperation.
