I was wondering whether there is anyone who is following the earthquakes in Gujarat, India .Besides of course the much cited natural factors like the continental shift etc, are there any man made factors which contribute to tremors ? I have been examining how dams could influence such events . There are a number of areas in India which reel under severe water shoratge because experts find building reservoirs in such areas very risky .At the same time there are rservoirs built at the same site for cities and industries
The consequences of this lopsisded perception of risk are of course borne by the poor as (at the same time )water is diverted to industries and urban areas , but building of more dams is seen to be risky for the poor .
So while there are (or could be)objective risks invloved , it is also true that much of the consequnecs of these risks are borne by the poor
Besides could any on tell me when (AAT THE EALRIEST) was a link between earthquakes and dams first spoke about in the natural sciences ? and later the social sciences ?
Information on this could be really helpful for my research.
