Said before, but as true as ever: the British academic world is characterised
by deeply ingrained racist, nationalist, and xenophobic attitudes. For source
material you need go no further than the JISC service (which includes this list)....
------
The main criteria for establishing a new list and continuing to support it are
as follows:
- The list should primarily benefit the UK higher education, further education and
research community
- The principal list owner should be employed by a UK higher education
institution, normally with an 'ac.uk' style email address
- There should be a significant percentage of list members from
UK HE, FE and Research Councils
- JISCmail lists should be directly related to research or
teaching within the UK HE and FE community or support of these activities
----------
I am not a lawyer, but I suspect all these conditions contravene EU law and/or
regulations. I also suspect that the same JISC administrators, who will not
have any foreigners benefitting from true-blue British lists, are happy to
accept EU subsidies for their ICT projects. But my question for the UK members
of this list is: why do such attitudes persist?
