You have all been very patient yet there has been a persistent effervescence
of enquiry which has encouraged the work behind the scenes!! Thank you.
So now is the time to take the top of the bottle. The place is Italy.
Specifically it is Sicily
http://encarta.msn.com/find/Concise.asp?&pg=2&ti=034D7000
or http://www.traveleurope.it/sicilia.shtml
It is 8 pm in the middle of September 2001, there is the smell of olives and
the warm mediterranean, mingled with food being cooked in the local
restaurant. The temperature is pleasantly warm. The atmosphere is calm and
thoughtful. A day of discussion and planning on evidence-based practice and
you are ready to relax. A glass of anti-oxidant adds to the feeling of
tranquility.
There are people from all over the world who are here comparing notes,
software, philosophies about the teaching of evidence based practice. With
that scene how could you not want to be there?
The conference is the 12th September until the 16th. But here is where it
gets tricky. Some of you have expressed an interest in this conference from
way back. Others who have more recently come on the scene will be hearing
about this for the first time. Nino Cartabellotta has organised the venue
(THANKS NINO FOR SOME HARD WORK) but we have a problem that I need to share.
There are two options.
1. No more than 50 people attend and the conference is free (completely
sponsored) and all you need pay is your airfare.
2. If more than 50 people come we must charge each person around £400 total
for 4 days inc food, accomodation etc.
To get the first option we must state the exact number of places ASAP.
So all you need do is express a firm interest in coming and I can then
determine the numbers. The list of people I have written to is 58 so we
should be under the 50 limit. If I have missed anyone please tell me!!
Say I get a positive response from 45 then I can confirm with Nino that we
are under the 50 threshold and then write to you immediately confirming that
it is free and happening..
OK - now you will see that this mailing is restricted and not an open
invitation to all. There was an open e-mail last year to everyone on EBHC
mailing list and centre of EBM members. I don't think we need advertise
again but as I have said if I have missed anyone then please let me know.
(Is this assumption correct - should we advertise it widely again??) If the
conference is a success (how could it not be?) then we can discuss repeating
it , where and for whom.
I think this could be
1. fantastically useful at stopping duplication of effort
2. the spring board for a whole series of collaborative developments
3. the starting point for several research projects
4. enable increased communication between us
5. FUN
So
* Have a look at the website to remind yourselves what it was all about
