There is less than a week to still catch the Early Bird Registration date
for the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians Annual Scientific
Meeting coming up this March in Calgary. This gives you the chance to be
part of the Early Bird draws and to enjoy a reduced conference registration
cost.

To those of you that benefit from the bonus on the exchange rate (US$ 1 =
CDN$ 1.50) this puts even more cash in your pocket!

2001: A CAEP Odyssey – A Journey to the Future of Emergency Medicine will be
THE event in Emergency Medicine in Canada this year. Our scientific program
will be innovative, interactive, provocative and even humourous. Highlights
from the six major tracks and small group sessions are listed below. Full
conference details are available at the CAEP web site: www.caep.ca

In addition to a first-rate scientific program our conference committee and
volunteers have worked hard to organize activities that will re-energize and
rejuvenate you. From the opening reception, A Taste of Calgary, to the Wild
West Night at a local historic ranch to the Friday night MASH Bash Gala
there will be plenty of time to enjoy yourself at 2001: A CAEP Odyssey.

Plan to head up to the Canadian Rocky Mountains where skiing and
snowboarding will be at its peak at some of the world’s finest alpine
resorts. Or escape to a tranquil mountain forest to snowshoe or
cross-country ski. Calgary is nestled in the Alberta foothills less than an
hour from the breathtaking Rockies.

Hope to see you in March!

The STARS Human Patient Simulator offers a true-to-life experience.
Installed in a motor home that will be on the conference floor, it recreates
the familiar "code room" or can be turned into a "helicopter" complete with
rotor sounds. The mannequin speaks, blinks, has reactive pupils and even a
tongue that swells during an anaphylactic reaction. Everything you perform
in a real resuscitation can be done with real equipment: chest tubes,
intubation 7 surgical airways; NG tubes & Foley catheters; drug
administration & defibrillation. Debriefing periods after each case allow
for the maximum possible interaction between colleagues and facilitators.
With the recent changes in ACLS guidelines this will be the perfect
opportunity for you to refresh your skill with critically ill or injured
patients.

A Cyber Café will allow you to sample the latest in computer goodies. Our
facilitator, Dr. Steve Sheehan has a range of computer experience. Whether
you are a confirmed computer junkie or a self-confessed technophobe, Steve
will bolster your skills and add to your computer comfort.

have illuminated computers to millions

The Death of the “Great White Doctor”: The Future of Medical Humanitarianism
Michael Schull is an Emergency Physician with the Nobel Prize winning
organization Medecins sans Frontieres

A Humorous Look at Psychiatry from the Patient’s Perspective
The Cheers Project uses humor with psychiatric and mentally handicapped
patients and has a unique perspective on how laughter really is the best
medicine for patients and for physicians!

A 2 day preconference in Banff March 19 – 20 will feature the popular “CAEP
Roadshows” scheduled to allow lots of time for skiing, boarding or
sleighing. Or just soak your troubles away in Banff’s world famous Mineral
Hot Springs. British readers of Conde Nast Traveller magazine recently
rated the Banff Springs Hotel and Spa as the world’s second best hotel and
spa destination. They also selected Canada as the world’s best country to
visit. But why trust them – come and see for yourself!!
