Mike,
The workshop is one of many consulatatory workshops being arranged to ensure
all stakeholders get a chance to voice their opinions in helping to shape
the future of acute care in an area where the viability of a smaller trust's
ability to provide a comprehensive acute service has come into question.
Cross trust collaboration and sharing of resources including non medical
personnel and management as well as medical personnel is likely to become
increasingly common, perhaps even more so in urban centers in the future. I
am sure that the process in Susex will be watched with interest by other
trusts throughout the country who may be contemplating similar
mergers/alliances. While viewed by some as a threat, it will be viewed by
many others as an opportunity to provide imnproved care.
Dr John Ryan
