Re. police surgeon unable to collect sample until ALL medical management
complete...
Surprised Jeremy has trouble getting near drunk drivers to collect
evidence. Most of them are not sufficiently seriously injured to warrant
time-sensitive life- or limb-saving management, so once I've established
this, I let the police at them. It only takes a few minutes and they are
often waiting (with no medical intervention going on) for hours for
XRays / doctor / nurse etc. Deferring, or worse deliberately obstructing
the police's job seems short-sighted and petty. Obviously they don't get
a look in until the patient's urgent management is concluded, and the
police we work with seem to appreciate this.
