Hi all,
In case you have missed it in the tv listings, Channel 4
(UK only i'm afraid) is showing daily highlights from the
Kumbh Mela festival which begins today near Allahabad,
India.
This is an ancient Hindu festival which draws millions
of pilgrims, monks, babas, sadhus and assorted gurus from
across the world to the banks of the Ganges river at a point
where it meets with the Yumana, and Saraswati rivers. There
they will bath in the Ganges to "cleanse their Karma and
heal their souls".
The month-long festival only occurs every 12 years when the
planets are in maximum alignment, and it attracts
millions of pilgrims. This year is particularly important
as the beginning of the festival coincides with a lunar
eclipse on the 9th (tomorrow folks, totality from about
17:50 until 18:50 in the UK).
CH4 showed an hour long programme on Saturday the 6th and
will give updates every week day this wekk at 7:50pm, just
after the CH4 news. I haven't got next weeks listings yet
but hopefully they will also show a few special programmes
nad continue coverage for the entire month.
Cheers, and a belated happy new year to you all,
Rich
