While visiting friends in the Navajo Nation, I was offered some horse meat.
They said that they eat horse meat in winter to prevent colds, and to keep
from feeling the cold. People who eat horse meat can be outside in very
cold weather with little clothing on and not be affected. Horse meat is
especially efficacious for elders, who are often bothered by cold weather
more than younger people.
I don't get colds and am not bothered by the cold weather, anyway, so I
didn't eat any horse meat.
