Dear List,
I am working on a 18th-19th century tavern on the
Chesapeake and have identified approximately 20 gar
scales. As this was supposedly the less desirable
tavern at the edge of town, I was hoping to find some
historical data regarding attitudes towards gar fish
as a food item and some comparative data such as
excavation reports from other Chesapeake sites. So far
all I have is many papers which mention gar but have
no quantification or context information.
Any references or first hand accounts would be greatly
appreciated.
