Hello...
Not strictly HE focused but...
Becta (involved with the National Grid for Learning @
http://www.ngfl.gov.uk ) link to standards for metdata, especially in
relation to National Curriculum subjects. It consists of a number of
keywords per subject and per stage. As the NGfL is distributed over a
number of websites, accredited ones of which are indexed on & searchable
from the central NGfL site, the metadata standards are intended to make
sure everyone supplying information indexes it in a similar way.
http://www.becta.org.uk/supportproviders/buildingthegrid/planninglea.html#web
will take you to the recommendations of the QCA @
http://www.qca.org.uk/metadata/ which gives the Qualifications and
Curriculum Authority's guidelines for various subjects (a *really* long
document).
The Virtual Teacher Centre also gives details of their metadata schema at
http://vtc.ngfl.gov.uk/docserver.php?docid=2190
Whether or not they'd have time to talk is another matter...
hope this helps
ian.

I'm a postgraduate student currently working on a dissertation about
implementing metadata standards. In particular, I'm looking at the
feasibility
of using metadata in the pages of a university web site, to make resources
easier for site users to find.
I'm very interested in knowing if there are any organisations out there,
especially in higher education, which are already using metadata to
catalogue
their own web resources. If anyone knows of a suitable organisation,
especially
one that might be willing to talk to me about their experiences, I'd be
grateful for all information received.
Thank you very much for your help,
Frances
