Here we allow staff to put anything they like in their personal pages, in
fact, we almost encourage it - as it's the best way to prevent them using
their departmental pages for that purpose!
Students can too, but recently undergraduates have been moved to a
different server - www.ug-home.nottingham.ac.uk - because of a
little disagreement with China (someone had something about human rights
violations, and China decided to block the entire www.nottingham.ac.uk
site).
Our 'official line' is as follows:
"If you provide a link from a work-related page to your own home page then
you should include a disclaimer stating that the page does not represent
The University of Nottingham. The page should not link back to official
University of Nottingham pages and should always be kept in your own
personal file store. The University accepts no responsibility for the
content of these pages. However, as a publication the document is still
bound by the conditions of the University and JANET. Remember that your
page will be seen throughout the world and think carefully before you
publish any personal information such as your address or photographs. The
University is not obliged to provide a facility for personal home pages
nor is it a student's or employee's right to publish non-academic material
on the WWW using networking and computing facilities provided by the
University."
And also, users shouldn't point their private domain names at their
personal UoN web space, although, I'm not really sure that's policed in
any way.
