I wouldn't be keen to have the job title web editor. I much prefer web
developer. Firstly editing sounds negative. Editors say "No you can't have
that on the web" or "You can only have that on the web if you change it".
Secondly it's too specific. I don't edit other than if a page is actually
offensive or illegal or full enough of typos that even I notice. It's not
my role to. But I do lots of other things.
Development is a very positive word. It covers a wider range of activities
including some or all of: server development and maintenance, web
programming, graphics work, planning institutional strategy and straight
html page production. And no doubt other activities I've missed out.
I'm not actually sure what my job title is these days :^) but last time I
was sure it was "Analyst Programmer (Web Development)" which is fine if a
bit long. Web Developer seems like the best job title for my role.
