Dear All,
We've just received an email from a web-editor at Heriot-Watt
University. He's asking if we (Nottingham University) are
considering/would consider signing up for new services offered by the
Education UK website, http://www.educationuk.org/
If I understand correctly, they plan to offer a complete course
listing for all Universities that sign up with them, and then charge any
University a percentage of tuition fees for any student that enroles
who has been influenced by information they've obtained via the website.
Has anyone else heard of this? Apparently, it's being developed
"Hotcourses".
Cheers
Kat

Subject: Education Uk website
Hello
I am the Webperson for Heriot-Watt University and a few
days ago I attended a presentation by Hotcourses
regarding the launch of the new Education UK website for
the British Council on January. The intention is that
this website (developed by Hotcourses a commercial company)
is aimed specifically for international students and is
initially targeting six countries. The website will be a
central source of information about UK University's that
will allow users to search through every Undergraduate and
Postgraduate course that is available throughout the UK.
While the website will prove very beneficial for promoting
UK University's throughout the world I was curious to see
their pricing policy on "Chargeable (success-related fees)"
"Agency Fees" and "Introduction Fees" of 10% and 5%
respectfully of the first year fees for students if a
student uses their website to enrol or if it influenced the
student to enrol.
I would be interested to find out your opinions about this
service and if you intend to use any of their extra
charged services (eg on-line application, university
profile pages, language translation, implementation of
course search feature with your University's template
design, banners etc) or if you intend to only use their
free services.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Mark Crooks
