| '21st century design skills' can bring us browser-specific sites, pop-up
| ads, and the web equivalent of the 'Digital On-screen Graphic' loved by
| corporate broadcasters and loathed by most of their (remaining) viewers. In
| broadcasting and perhaps in the web, we're into an era of great
| insensitivity towards content.
No. That's just really bad design. If you're making those mistakes,
then sorry, but you're a bad designer. GOOD design takes all of those
things into account, and accessibility, and a whole host of other
things. In my mind "21st centuary design skills" MEANS being able to make
attractive-looking sites, with solid navigation and a responsible
attitude toward content, that are also accessible to the widest possible
number of users. It means being aware of ALL the issues that are involved
in creating a good web site, not just how to make pretty graphics.
