Hello
The Computer-assisted Assessment (CAA) Centre announces the
publication of the third draft of Blueprint for CAA – a comprehensive
document on the key issues in implementing CAA.
The publication aims to encourage the appropriate adoption of CAA
as one of a range of assessment methods. There is a discussion of
the pedagogical issues associated with objective testing and the
structuring of tests and questions within the context of wider
assessment strategies. Comprehensive practical advice concerning
the construction of tests and questions is offered with examples of
basic and complex question types. Techniques for scoring and
making effective use of statistics are also discussed.
There is an overview of the range of technologies available to deliver
CAA, a brief explanation of related activities such as computer-
mediated communication, and discussions of quality assurance
issues and methods of evaluating CAA.
Due to demand this version of Blueprint is being made freely
available to the higher education sector in order to obtain evaluative
comments before the final version is published in the summer. It is
also available to those outside the sector.
The CAA Centre, along with consortium members, has been
working on the Blueprint as one of its main project outcomes.
Funded by HEFCE, the Centre aims to disseminate the final
version throughout the UK HE sector later in the year and
evaluative comments on this draft version would be highly valued. A
copy of the final version will be made available free to all those who
obtain the draft version.
