*Apologies for cross posting*

The LTSN Centre for Bioscience is currently advertising two
important posts: C&IT Manager and Project Officer
(Imagebank). I would be grateful if you would publicise
details of these posts amongst your staff and subject
communities

*C&IT Manager
The role of the C&IT Manager will be to develop and
maintain the LTSN Centre for Bioscience’s electronic
systems. One of the Centre’s key means of communicating
with the bioscience and related communities is by way of
its web site. The website is a portal to the LTSN Centre
for Bioscience Knowledgebase. The Knowledgebase is an
on-line database of resources including courseware, reviews
and examples of good practice. The C&IT Manager will be
responsible for the continued development and maintenance
of the website and Knowledgebase, in addition to the
maintenance and development of the Centre’s mailbase lists.
S/he will ensure efficient use of these electronic systems
and will be expected to develop existing resources.

The C&IT Manager will have some responsibility to evaluate
critically resources provided from the community for
inclusion into the Knowledgebase. S/he will assist in the
search for and review of IT based materials for use in
bioscience teaching, learning and assessment. S/he will
also contribute to Centre activities by supporting other
Centre projects, including support to the Imagebank Project
Officer, who will be working on a feasibility study on the
development of a life sciences imagebank.

Salary: Other Related Grade 2/3 (££19,482-£30,967 p.a.)

The above post is offered, in the first instance, for two
years, with a possible extension if additional project
funding becomes available which is likely.

*Project Officer (Imagebank)
The Project Officer will be primarily responsible for
working on a feasibility study to support the development
of a life sciences imagebank, but will also contribute to
other LTSN project work.

The post will involved surveying all image material
currently available for the Life Sciences in both digitised
format and traditional media, to determine subject coverage
and identify gaps in provision. From this the postholder
will be able to demonstrate those subject areas where
critical mass is available and those areas where distinct
gaps exist. The Project Officer will also identify and
liaise with, those national agencies within the Joint
Information Systems Committee (JISC) and the Distributed
National Electronic Resource (DNER) who provide related
services. In addition, s/he will work with the Bioscience
and related communities to identify their image needs and
the type of learning materials that will support them in
their work. This will include looking at the way the
materials will be used in live teaching and lesson
preparation situations to consider the most appropriate
interface for distribution and preferred methods of user
access to the imagebank.

The successful applicant will ideally be educated to
Masters level, will have a knowledge of the Life Sciences
or related discipline, and possess an extensive knowledge
of the structure and function of the HE sector, including
national organisations and initiatives such as the Teaching
and Learning Technology Programme (TLTP), the Fund for the
Development of Teaching and Learning Programme (FDTL),
DNER, JISC, LTSN. Experience of the use of digitised
materials and Internet technologies in teaching and
learning, an understanding of Intellectual property Rights
and copyright issues are essential, as are good
communication and presentation skills. Direct experience
in the technical aspects of imaging is essential. The post
is based in Leeds but some travel will be necessary.

Salary: Other Related Staff 2 (£19,482 - £20,465 p.a.)

The above post is offered, in the first instance, for one
year, with a possible extension if additional project
funding is made available.

Informal enquiries & application packs for both posts may
be addressed to Trish Walker, Centre Manager, tel: 0113 233
