Subject: Integrated Motorycle transport, traffic and safety policy
conference 21-22 Feb 2001 ExCel Docklands London
The Motorcycle Industry Council and Napier University Transport Research
Institute (TRi) have a Conference next week in London which brings together
people with practical experience in traffic engineering, transport policy
with motorcycles, mopeds and scooters as well as with the classical safety
issues in motorcycling.
This mode of transport has real potential in some areas of integrated
transport, but the general knowledge of the transport and traffic
profession is currently limited largely to the safety aspects.
This conference will present new work on transport and traffic aspects such
as travel demand estimation, mode choice attitudes, shared lane
performance. Neccessary policy provisions and directions to integrate
powered two wheelers into transport and traffic planning practice with
other modes to the best overall result for the community are brought out.
For every other mode of transport there is a balanced body of knowledge and
experience available to research, policy and operational workers. This is a
unique occasion where people with experience in all these aspects will be
readily accessible.
The knowledge and connections to be made at this meeting can provide a
valuable contribution to Local Transport Plans and a source of cost
effective and help to ensure well targeted demonstration and research in
this area.
