methods and activities that teachers might use in their classrooms.

Objectives include, to:
* Explore the role for Business Studies and Economics in delivering the
Citizenship curriculum
* Illustrate how global and ethical issues can be integrated into the
everyday teaching and learning of these subjects.
* Increase awareness of global economic issues
* Develop strategies to involve students in thinking about matters of
equity, fairness and justice
* Increase knowledge of the support structures and sources of material to
support teaching of these matters

What is 'Just Business'?
'Just Business' is a project that seeks to encourage and support the
inclusion of a global and ethical dimension in the teaching and learning of
Business Studies and Economics in UK schools. 'Globalisation' is a topic
that is high on the agenda of government, business and civil society. The
process of globalisation is being driven by the globalisation of the worlds
markets. Economics and Business Studies have at their hearts the study of
markets, and therefore students of those subjects need to be informed about
global issues.

Although the market has become the global form of economic organisation,
there is public concern over some of the consequences of unregulated free
enterprise. There are growing calls for greater transparency and
accountability in the dealings of Business and Government. In particular
there is a demand for the 'ethical auditing' of business and economic
activity.

'Just Business' aims to assist teachers of Business Studies and Economics
and their students to explore the global and ethical dimensions of their
subject. We have a website to further this process - www.jusbiz.org. The
website exists to provide information, news, a discussion forum, articles
and teaching resources (some of which are free to download) to promote the
global and ethical dimensions of these subjects.

'Just Business' runs educational conferences for students of Business
Studies and Economics, INSET for teachers and Initial Teacher Training
based around global and ethical issues.

Over the last year we have been working to promote the links between
Business Studies and Citizenship. This has involved us delivering INSET for
local education authorities and 'Global Citizenship Days' for 5 of the 13
colleges training teachers of Business Studies in the UK. We have also
written articles on the same theme for 'Teaching Business & Economics', the
journal of the Economics and Business Education Association, 'Teaching
Citizenship', the journal of Association of Citizenship Teaching (ACT) and
'Citizenship & PHSE Update'.

Best Wishes
