ANNOUNCEMENT OF SEMINAR
"Best practice: combining fixed and responsive transport systems"
The University of Newcastle upon Tyne (Transport Operations Research
Group) in association with Mobisoft UK is holding a Seminar entitled
"Efficiently Combining Fixed and Responsive Transport Systems: Best
Practice Now and a Vision for the Future" at the University of
Newcastle upon Tyne on 10th October 2001.
Background
We are now seeing that the combination of Demand Responsive Transport
services with fixed route services is becoming an increasingly popular
alternative to car usage in the UK and this has received much impetus
from the DTLR's Rural and Urban Bus Challenge programmes. The
objective of the Seminar is to bring together a number of local
authorities around the UK already applying such systems to showcase
their experiences. The intention is to capture "best practice", pass
this on to other authorities who come along to the Seminar and
formulate future strategies and policies. In addition, we will have a
presentation and demonstration of real-time information technology
for fixed route services and participation from the DTLR's Transport
Direct programme.
Early application is advised. For further details and booking form go
to the Transport Operations Research Group website at
